Everything I binge watched on my sick day

Amazon[/caption] The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel If you know me, when you watch this, you’ll be all, “Of course Aubrie loves this.” Mrs. Maisel is an Amazon Prime original from the creator of Gilmore Girls, Amy Sherman-Palladino. Like the aughts fan-favorite, Ms. Sherman-Palladino’s new show has a smart, funny, empowered female lead, a brilliant cast of dynamic and lovable supporting characters, and killer writing. It was just the dose of charming, pro-woman warm fuzzy I’ve needed out of 2017. I won’t give you a plot synopsis, but if you like period pieces, shows set in New York City, comedy, strong female leads, or Gilmore Girls, you will probably enjoy this show. Jamaica Inn This one’s a little dark in a Bronte sisters kind of way. Some of the narration is melodramatic, but the actual story is interesting – if not a tad predictable. The performances are great, and in spite of being a somewhat formulaic BBC period piece, 10 out of 10 would watch it again. Also, everyone’s favorite sister from Downtown Abbey is the central character. It’s on Netflix. If you haven’t watched Billions at all, borrow someone’s Showtime streaming login and check it out. I’ve read things that argue for its accuracies and inaccuracies in portraying the world of high finance, but it sure does make it entertaining. It’s hard to pick a side, and you find yourself rooting for and against the same characters over a couple of episodes. I like to believe it’s more fictional than realistic, but given the news lately…I digress. It’s good, soapy binge watching. We also haven’t yet finished it, but it won’t last long.  Godless is a western that tries not to romanticize the West. It makes the whole experience of living in the wild west look as difficult, dangerous and brutal as the original Oregon Trail made it out to be. YOU BROKE A WAGON WHEEL. NOW YOU ARE DEAD FROM DYSENTERY. Far from the more winsome cowboys and hookers with hearts of gold (ok maybe there is a hooker with a heart of gold), that you see in most Westerns, this one is both darker, and more measured. Also, more strong (and varied) female leads. Also on Netflix. Obviously, I’ve been watching far more TV than is good for me. The thing is, sometimes you just need a distraction from it all. Especially when you feel like crap. What are you watching right now?]]>
