If you follow me on the insta, you know that my genius self neglected to do any of my cycling workouts outside this training season…oooops. I realized this on Monday – on my way to a spin class – and thought “Oh shit! I have a race on Saturday, and I haven’t been on my ACTUAL BIKE since November.” Womp, womp.
Since it ain’t over til it’s over, I ditched spin class for an outdoor ride. Here’s what went through my head after 6 months away from my race bike:
Wait, how do the gear shifts work?
Ahhhhh, yep, that’s it.
Good Lord, gear shifts are my best friends.
WHY IS THAT CAR SO CLOSE TO ME?! BACK THE EFF OFF, SIR.
Prospect Park is so pretty at sunset!
Must work on high cadence on the big gear…
People on Citi bikes are the worst.
I was wrong, adults on scooters are the worst.
(downhill) I’m going too fast! I’m going too fast!
(uphill) Oh right. This is what a climb feels like. How long is that climb on Saturday?
Ooooo, let me stop and take a picture.
Unclip! Unclip! (Note to self, unclip before trying to stop and take a picture.)
Riding in the park is far superior to riding on the streets.
WHY ARE THERE SO MANY CARS STOPPED IN THE BIKE LANE?
More effing Citi bikes.
So, it looks like my bike and I are ready to show up at the Harry Man Triathlon on Saturday. Fingers crossed we’ll also be ready to finish 🙂
Ever commit a major training blooper? Go into a race a little underprepared? How’d it go?
