So how about that Fourth of July on a Wednesday? Weird, right? I mean it was great to have a day off in the middle of the week, but there’s something a little anti climactic about Wednesday. Alas.
Since most of my friend’s had to work the rest of the week, there would be no sophisticated Independence Day festivities for us. We tossed ideas for the date back and forth, eventually settling on….nothing. Luckily, the wise Kate woke up on the 4th to blue skies, texted us all into gear and convinced a carload of us to head to the beach!
Riis Park is a NYC public beach on the Rockaways in Queens. You should go there, it’s pretty nice…and shockingly, even on the 4th of July, it wasn’t that crowded!
It turned out to be an awesome beach day. Hot, but breezy, the water was cold (you could even see your feet it was so clear!), and the company was fantastic. Winning.
I’m on day 4 of marathon training (so many days to go), so I decided to get my run in at the beach. I was supposed to do 3 easy miles. I don’t have a gps watch right now (more on that in the future), so I figured I’d just run in one direction for what felt like 10-15 mins, and then turn around. I have no idea how far I ran, but it felt like the effort of a 3 mile easy run, so I’m going with it.
After the beach, Charlie and I went on a tour of Miller Lite and Brooklyn rooftops (i.e. we visited some friends with views). Summer nights really are the best. Unfortunately, Wednesday night begets Thursday morning, and today was a work day. Womp, womp. However, when I got to work, THIS GUY was watering the lawn:
That is a sprinkler folks, and by golly was it challenging to resist running through it. I literally went for a walk outside 3 times, entertaining the thought that I might go for it. I refrained, but if it’s there tomorrow, I will probably embrace it.
How was your wonky 4th of July? Anything good happen on your “second Monday”?
